Privacy Policy for YouTube Video Toolkit

Last updated: October 19, 2026

This policy describes how YouTube Video Toolkit (formerly ClearView) handles information when you use the browser extension.

Information handling

YouTube Video Toolkit does not collect or transmit personal information to the developer. It does not operate a backend service, include analytics or advertising trackers, or sell or share user information.

The extension processes information on supported YouTube pages locally in your browser to provide the features you choose. This includes video playback state, player controls, page elements, and video titles used to name screenshots and recordings. This information is not sent to the developer.

Settings stored on your device

The extension uses your browser's local extension storage to save preferences, such as playback speed, preferred quality, audio settings, themes, player layout, distraction filters, and keyboard shortcuts. These preferences remain in the browser profile where the extension is installed and are not uploaded by the extension.

You can reset preferences in the extension's settings. You can also export settings to a file or import a settings file you select. Exported files remain wherever you choose to save them.

Screenshots, clipboard, and recordings

Screenshots and recordings are created locally when you request them. Depending on your settings, screenshots are saved to your device, copied to your clipboard, or both. Recordings capture the video player's content and available playback audio; the extension does not request camera or microphone access.

Recording data is held in memory during recording and saved locally when recording stops. The extension does not upload screenshots, recordings, or clipboard contents. Other applications may be able to access your clipboard according to your device's settings.

Files you save or export remain on your device until you delete them. Uninstalling the extension does not delete these files or clear your clipboard.

Permissions and website access

All extension code is included in the installed package. The extension does not download or execute remotely hosted code.

Third-party services

YouTube continues to operate under its own privacy policy. This policy covers YouTube Video Toolkit only; it does not describe information collected by YouTube, your browser, or other installed extensions.

Your choices

You can change or disable features in the extension's settings and disable or uninstall the extension through your browser's extension manager. You can delete saved screenshots, recordings, and exported settings using your device's file manager.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the extension's information-handling practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision.
